SATs for 11 year old abolished? Hooray! How much has this pointless exercise cost?

I am a retired Primary Headteacher and said that SATs would never work. I wrote to MPs and to the House of Lords. No-one listened. So............. was I right?? and how much has this cost?? It could have been so much better spent in Education.
