Do people in San Francisco generally accept gay people?

I mean ACCEPT and not just TOLERATE. At first I thought that people in San Francisco OBVIOUSLY accepted gay people, but then I realized that a lot of conservative and religious people move to the city because of it's natural beauty after thinking only accepting people would move there. Also, after thinking about it, I realized that the Castro is almost like a gay ghetto and people in the inner city might expect the only signs of gayness (i.e. dating, holding hands between two males) to be IN the Castro. So anyway, I really just don't KNOW...I've never been there. Fill me in PLZ!
